Bekim Agai from Bonn (Germany) is the project head of research group "Europe from the outside - Formations of Middle Eastern views on Europe from inside Europe". On Thursday, he gave a lecture on "Mutual perceptions and narratives in the Mediterranean dialogue and their influence on recent developments".



Ahmed Zidan: We like sharing

Ahmed Zidan is an editor of two websites run in Egypt: www.mideastyouth.com and arab.net, both social networks and platforms of exchange. It is his first NECE conference.



Mona Shahein: Democracy has to be taken

Mona Shahein from Egypt runs the project www.tahrirlounge.com in Cairo. The network wants to build a strong and tolerant community for young people which is capable of recruiting positive energies on the social and political levels.



Kars Veling

Kars Veling is the Director of ProDemos in The Hague (the Netherlands), one of the key partners of NECE. He gave one of the welcome speeches on Wednesday.



Claus Leggewie

Claus Leggewie, director of the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen (Germany), gave one of the key note speeches on "The crisis of the European project and the transformation in North Africa: Perspectives for democracy and citizenship education".
